Ballerina, the John Wick spin-off starring Ana de Armas, has received an update ahead of its release next year.

The film, which is set between the third and fourth instalments in the action franchise, follows Rooney (de Armas) as she seeks revenge on the people who murdered her family.

Whilst Ballerina won't be hitting the big screen until next summer, director Len Wiseman has revealed that filming had been completed, but that production was currently paused.

"We're on a pause right now," he told Entertainment Weekly. "But I've just finished the director's cut. Had an amazing shoot. It's a really fun movie."

de Armas, who has appeared in movies including Knives Out and No Time To Die, previously teased her role in Ballerina, revealing that she loved the experience of working with Keanu Reeves.

"That is going to be really another level. That movie was really demanding,” she said. “I love the John Wick universe and I loved working with Keanu again. It's a great character and it's a great story, it's beautiful on screen. I'm very excited for that one.”

Before Ballerina hits the screen, fans of the franchise will get their fix of action when The Continental premieres later this week. It's a three-part miniseries focusing on a younger version of Winston Scott, who was played by Ian McShane in the films.

Colin Woodell, who is playing Winston, recently teased the limited series, with the actor revealing that the new time period will allow producers to adopt a different style than that of Chad Stahelski's films.

"We have all the producers from the films, so we have them overseeing and there is a really strict continuity to honour those and the style that they have in them," he said ."But what's also wonderful is, this is the '70s, so it is going to be stylistically different."

Ballerina is currently scheduled to be released on June 7, 2024. The Continental will premiere on September 22 on Peacock in the US and Prime Video internationally.
