Anchorage, Mat-Su and many Kenai Peninsula schools shift to remote learning Thursday
Nov. 9—As snow began piling up Wednesday evening, the Anchorage School District announced all classes will be held remotely on Thursday.
"Employees should follow emergency closure procedures for their building or department for remote learning," the school district said in an email.
The school district followed up Thursday morning with an announcement that after-school activities would also not take place.
The ASAA state volleyball tournament, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center, will continue, the district said.
The Matanuska-Susitna School District also announced Thursday morning that all of its schools would shift to remote learning Thursday.
Schools in the central and eastern Kenai Peninsula will be closed Thursday, the school district said.
The University of Alaska Anchorage and Mat-Su College also announced campus closures Thursday.
