Anchorage schools closed for 4th day due to continuing heavy snow

All Anchorage schools and facilities will be closed again Monday amid heavy snowfall and poor road conditions, the district says.
Schools have been closed since Wednesday.

"A decision about after-school activities and rental facilities for community groups will be made by noon, the district said in online messages early Monday.
"Only emergency staff should report for duty, including all facilities and maintenance staff," the district said.
The weather service said 12 to 16 inches of snow is possible by Monday afternoon, with 16 to 20 on the Anchorage Hillside and in Eagle River. The heaviest snowfall Sunday night and into Monday morning, potentially snarling Monday's commute.
In the Mat-Su Borough, school officials said Sunday evening that schools will be closed Monday to in-person classes.

"All schools will have remote learning day Monday ... due to the winter storm that has brought poor visibility, snowdrifts and is forecasted to bring widespread heavy snowfall throughout the evening and early morning, creating hazardous road conditions," the district wrote.
Anchorage School District spokesman MJ Thim said Friday that the district understands the difficulty caused by repeated snow days but that safety remains a top district priority. The district has offered to help with the city's snow removal, he said.
