Ancient Voices to present at concert at Bern Township church [Religion Digest]

Oct. 8----Bern Reformed United Church of Christ, 3196 Bernville Road, Bern Township, will feature award-winning music duo Ancient Voices in concert on Wednesday at 6:30 pm. Their program is preceded by Turtle Moon Native American Flute Circle playing improvised "Heartsong" melodies. Ancient Voices is the musical duo of David Rose (Native American flute) and Dan Kennedy (piano), who will be celebrating their two nominations in this year's Native American Music Awards. A free-will offering will be accepted. On Sunday, there will be live worship at 9:30 a.m. You also can participate from your vehicle in the parking lot by means of an FM 87.9 transmission or on Facebook.

—Theology with a Twist! will meet on Tuesday at the Kutztown Tavern, 272 W. Main St., Kutztown, at 7 p.m. The event is free, however food and drinks can be purchased in the main restaurant before the event begins. Dr. Greg Carey, Biblical scholar, author and professor of New Testament at Lancaster Theological Seminary, will speak on Christian Nationalism: what it is, how it has developed and why it is dangerous for democracy and for the church.

—Trinity Lutheran Church, 1749 S. Main St., Bechtelsville, will hold its fall craft show next Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. It will include a used book sale. Refreshments will be available to purchase.

—St. John's Reformed Church, 4001 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, will hold Rally Day on Sunday as part of its launch of a new Christian education program. Classes will be available for all ages and will begin at 9 a.m. A worship service, including Communion, will follow at 10:30. The church will then begin a new schedule of Sunday worship beginning on Oct. 16, with Christian education classes and a contemporary service held at 9 a.m. and a traditional worship service beginning at 10:30.

—Huff's Union Church, 540 Conrad Road, Hereford Township, will hold an oyster pie sale on Oct. 22. Pick up between 9 a.m. and noon. Cost is $8 per pie. Orders are due by Sunday. Call the church office at 610-845-2626 to order.

—Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Barto, will worship on Sunday at 9 a.m., with Holy Communion. Confirmation class will be held at 10 a.m. in room I and adult Sunday/Bible class will be at 10 a.m. in the parlor.

—The United Church of Christ in Robesonia will worship at 301 W. Penn Ave. at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday by YouTube, in person, by Facebook and by telephone. After worship, a congregational meeting will be held to hear the status of the naming process for the new congregation. Women's Lunch will be Thursday at noon at Country Fare in Myerstown. —St. John's Gernant's Church (A Federated Congregation), 13 Gernant's Church Road, Ontelaunee Township, will worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m., with Holy Communion. Special guest speaker will be Kyle Lord, director of Keystone Military Families. There will be a piano solo by Fern Kulp ("Peace with God"). She also will be the musician for the service. Bible study will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

—St. John Hill Church, 620 Hill Church Road, Pike Township, will present a gospel music concert by Ken Plott next Saturday at 3 p.m. A free will offering will be taken. There will be a social hour and light refreshments after the concert.

—Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St., Reading, will hold two worship services on Sunday morning, both including Holy Eucharist: at 8, a said service (no music) and at 9:30, a service with music welcoming families with young children. At 9, a time of Christian formation will take place, with church school for the children in second-floor classrooms and adult forum for adults in the parlor, featuring a preview of "Shroud Encounter," the program to be held on next Saturdaty at 4 in the sanctuary. —Zion's Lutheran Church, 354 Zions Church Road, Perry Township, will have a preordered bazaar food drive today from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Worship on Pastor Appreciation Sunday is at 10:30 a.m, with Holy Communion. Next Saturday from 8-11 a.m. there will be a 25 cent clothing sale and a pop-up indoor/outdoor yard sale. —St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5 W.
