Anderson County Library receives HUD grant, plans new Iva branch. Here's what to know.

The Anderson County Library received a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in partnership with the Town of Iva.

The grant will be used to develop a branch library in downtown Iva. According to downtown administrator Tim Taylor, "The library will also serve as an Internet cafe and will be a place where people can come to access the Internet, read books and use the library's resources."

It will also provide a safe space for people to meet and socialize, Taylor said.

Grant funds will be used to renovate an existing storefront location in the Iva town square on East Front Street. The renovated library will feature large public tables and couches for comfort, collaborative meeting space with "the most rigorous ADA-accessibility standards," according to Taylor.

The plan is to mix this new innovative building with modern buildings downtown, Taylor said. Renovation work is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2023.

Taylor said, "If everything runs as planned, the library could open around January 2025."
