Anderson named 1 of 9 best cities to live, retire for 'budget southern charm,' AARP says
Retired and living in Anderson?
Well you may just be in one of the nine best places across the country to retire.
In a list of nine cities, AARP highlighted Anderson for it's "budget southern charm" and lazy days on Lake Hartwell.
Mayor Terence Roberts said he's not surprised by the findings of the article considering the steps Anderson has taken to be recognized on the national scale.
Lake Hartwell is the region's largest lake and just so happens to be in Anderson's backyard, Roberts said. The mild climate and world-class health care do their part to attract the people as well, he said.
"A lot of people who are looking to relocate, because of work or retire, are seeing that we check a lot of the boxes," he said.
Anderson was the most affordable place to live on the list, with a median cost of $898 a month.

The cities were selected for their comparatively low cost of living, access to recreation, relative ease of moving around, health care systems and a strong sense of community. These draws are not just for retired people and can attract people from all walks of life, according to the AARP rankings.

Idaho Falls, Idaho
Jackson, Tennessee
Fort Worth, Texas
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Lansing, Michigan
Provo, Utah
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
