Anderson University's Pink Walk to benefit Play4Kay set for Oct. 21. Here's what to know.

The second annual Pink Walk is being hosted by AnMed, Anderson University and Spero Financial. The Free community event will be held from 9 a.m. to 11a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.

The AnMed Mammography Mobile will be on site to provide screenings. The first 100 attendees will receive a free t-shirt.

Participants will walk 2.5 miles on Spero Financial Field at Anderson University in support of those affected by cancer.

Funds raised will be directed to Play4Kay.

Spero Financial President and CEO Brian McKay said, “Most of us have been personally touched by cancer or have a loved one or friend who has. The Pink Walk is a time that we can come together as a community to raise support in the fight against cancer."

Here's what to know about Play4Kay

Play4Kay was created under the guidance of former North Carolina State basketball coach Kay Yow in 2007. Her vision for the Play4Kay foundation was to bring communities together and honor women fighting cancer.

Coach Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and died on Jan. 24, 2009. Since its founding, $8.18 million has been awarded to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in its fight against all forms of cancer affecting women.

On March 31, 2023, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund recognized Anderson University as the 2023 Play4Kay Division II National Award Winner. According to Anderson University, it has raised the most funds in the South Atlantic Conference for four of the five years.

Anderson University Head Coach Jonathan Barbaree said, "When it comes to supporting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, it's a no brainer for our university and our community to step up. Across our campus we understand that this is an ongoing battle that we want to help fight against."

"The City of Anderson and its business owners have stepped right in to support us in that charge. We are grateful for their support, and we have hope that one day we will defeat this awful disease."
