Andover creating Poet Laureate position -- and it could be you

May 21—ANDOVER — The Town of Andover is seeking a different kind of license from residents: the poetic kind.

The town is hoping to establish a Poet Laureate position in town, to promote the literary arts in Andover.

The duties of the volun — teer position would include making at least three presentations per year at municipal events and to promote poetry amongst town residents, for a two-year term.

Poet Laureates must be at least 16 years old, have lived in Andover for at least the last three years and must remain a resident throughout the duration of term. Poet Laureates may be reappointed by the Board of Selectmen at the end of the term. The selectmen also have the right to revoke the tenure if the Poet Laureate does not meet the requirements of the position or becomes involved in illegal or unethical matters.

The Board of Selectmen, members of the library's Board of Trustees and a lit erary expert will form the committee to select Poet Laureate.

After reviewing applica- tions and each candidate's poems, experience and commitment to the position, finalists will be chosen for interviews.

The committee expects to review applications in August and make an appointment in September, with the first term of the new Poet Laureate run ning from October 1st, 2022 through September 30, 2024.
