Grey's Anatomy boss Shonda Rhimes's new series The Residence has added a host of new names to its cast.

The brand new Netflix show was confirmed earlier this month, with Orange Is the New Black star Uzo Aduba taking on the lead role of eccentric detective Cordelia Cupp as she investigates a murder at the White House.

The Hollywood Reporter now reveals that Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andre Braugher and This Is Us's Susan Kelechi Watson have joined the cast as White House chief usher AB Wynter and Jasmine Haney, a rising White House assistant usher, respectively, alongside a number of other stars.

They include My Name Is Earl's Jason Lee as President Perry Morgan's screw-up brother Tripp, Party Down's Ken Marino as Harry Hollinger, the President's closest friend, and The Wire's Edwina Findley as White House butler Sheila Cannon.

Servant's Molly Griggs will play the President's social secretary Lilly Schumacher, Stranger Things' Al Mitchell will portray head butler/maître d’ Rollie Bridgewater, American Vandal's Dan Perrault has been cast as head of presidential detail Colin Trask.

Also on board are Chilling Adventures of Sabrina's Bronson Pinchot as executive pastry chef Didier Gotthard, Your Honor's Isiah Whitlock Jr as chief of police Larry Dokes and Star Trek: Discovery's Mary Wiseman as executive chef Marvella.

The new series is based on The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Brower and focuses on Cupp, a consulting detective for the Metropolitan Police Department who is "an astute observer of human behavior, with a distinctive and – to some, unsettling – conversational style".

The synopsis adds: “One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion."

Rhimes, who created Grey's Anatomy, will act as executive producer, with Paul William Davies showrunning and The Last of Us' Liza Johnson directing the first four episodes.
