Andrew Lloyd Webber’s son ‘critically ill’ with gastric cancer; composer to miss ‘Bad Cinderella’ Broadway opening

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s eldest son is “critically ill” with gastric cancer, the composer announced.

Nick Lloyd Webber, 43, began battling the disease 18 months ago and is currently hospitalized, his father said.

“I therefore have not been able to attend the recent previews of ‘Bad Cinderella’ and as things stand, I will not be able to cheer on its wonderful cast, crew and orchestra on Opening Night this Thursday” on Broadway, Andrew Lloyd Webber, 74, said in a statement.

“We are all praying that Nick will turn the corner. He is bravely fighting with his indomitable humor, but at the moment my place is with him and the family.”

Like his father, Nick Lloyd Webber is a composer and producer. He has worked with his dad on multiple projects, including “Cinderella,” which opened in London in 2021 and received a Grammy nomination for best musical theater album last year.

The show heads to Broadway as “Bad Cinderella” and serves as a modernized adaptation of the classic fairy tale. Linedy Genao of Brooklyn is set to star as the title character.

The London-born Andrew Lloyd Webber is a six-time Tony winner known for musicals such as “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Cats,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “Evita.” He won a best original song Oscar in 1997 for “You Must Love Me,” performed by Madonna in a film adaptation of “Evita.”

“Bad Cinderella,” which began previews last month, is playing at the Imperial Theatre on W. 45th St.
