The Savannah Morning News is proud to announce Andruw Jones as the special guest speaker at the 2022 Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards at 7:30 p.m. on June 10 at the Johnny Mercer Theatre at the Savannah Civic Center, presented by Georgia Ports. The show is produced with support from Chatham Orthopaedic Associates.

More than 200 high school athletes from across the Coastal Empire area will be honored. The show also will name players of the year for more than 20 sports and include several major awards, including overall players of the year, team of the year, coach of the year and the Courage Award.

“I’m excited to host the Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards and celebrate these outstanding student-athletes,” said Jones, a former MLB All-Star and an Atlanta Braves Hall of Famer. “These kids have worked hard to get where they are today, and it’s a privilege to be able to help recognize their dedication and diligence.”

Jones played in Major League Baseball from 1996-2012 — his first 12 seasons with the Atlanta Braves. He won 10 straight Gold Gloves with Atlanta, and led the National League with 51 home runs and 128 RBIs in 2005. He was also a five-time All-Star.
