Andy’s Frozen Custard is opening its first spot in this Johnson County city next week

Andy’s Frozen Custard — a Springfield-based frozen dessert shop that has quickly spread across the Kansas City area — is opening its latest Johnson County location next week.

The Olathe spot at 13981 W. 135th St. will begin serving customers Wednesday via its drive-thru and walk-up window. It will be the city’s first Andy’s location.

Andy’s is known for its concretes, sundaes, splits and malts. It offers seasonal flavors — key lime in the summer and pumpkin pie in the fall — as well as year-round favorites, like the Oreo and caramel “BootDaddy.”

Other menu favorites include its butter pecan concrete and James brownie funky jackhammer.

This will be the Kansas City area’s 13th store, according to Hillary Schrum Reeser, a spokeswoman for Andy’s. The store will celebrate its grand opening Sept. 28.

The company will now have six spots in Johnson County, including four in Overland Park and one in Shawnee.

The chain has close to 150 stores in 15 states and will be opening another location in the Northland at 6000 N.W. 88th St. soon.

Andy’s began in Osage Beach, Missouri, in 1986. Husband and wife John and Carol Kuntz named the store after their son, Andy, who is now the chief executive officer.

The company entered the Kansas City market in 2015 at 1200 Westport Road.
