Andy Murray vs Roberto Bautista Agut - LIVE: Murray out of Australian Open after four-set defeat

Andy Murray is out of the Australian Open after a battling four-set defeat to Roberto Bautista Agut. Murray was playing less than two days after the longest match of his career, which saw the 35-year-old complete an astonishing comeback at 4am to defeat Thanasi Kokkinakis from two sets down and in five hours and 45 minutes, but the former world No 1 could not produce another escape act.

Murray looked tired and weary as Bautista Agut raced to the opening set in 29 minutes, but hit back to win a stunning 87-minute second set, while saving two set points in the tiebreak. Bautista Agut steadied to seal a 6-1, 6-7(7), 6-3, 6-4 in over three hours, in what was an admirable fight from the 35-year-old.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic continued to defy a hamstring injury as a straight-sets victory over Grigor Dimitrov sent him into the fourth round. The title favourite took another timeout after falling to the floor at the side of the court at the end of the first set but, despite continuing to limp and looking uncomfortable at times, clinched a 7-6 (7) 6-3 6-4 victory.

Earlier, Dan Evans was overpowered by fifth seed Andrey Rublev in a straight-sets defeat. The Russian crunched 60 winners compared with only 22 unforced errors in a quality display to win 6-4 6-2 6-3 and leave Murray as the only British singles player remaining ahead of his meeting with Bautista Agut. Novak Djokovic continued to defy a hamstring injury as a straight-sets victory over Grigor Dimitrov sent him into the fourth round of the Australian Open.

The title favourite admitted after needing a medical timeout and dropping a set to French qualifier Enzo Couacaud that he was concerned, and a clash with 27th seed Dimitrov was a much better test of his physical condition.

He took another timeout after falling to the floor at the side of the court at the end of the first set but, despite continuing to limp and looking uncomfortable at times, clinched a 7-6 (7) 6-3 6-4 victory.
