Angela Bassett will return to the Mission: Impossible universe after appearing in the 2018 instalment Fallout.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Tom Cruise (obviously), the seventh movie is currently in production while an eighth is being developed too.

Bassett, whose other screen credits include Pixar's Soul and American Horror Story, portrays CIA director Erika Sloane in a cast that also features Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg.

Excited to jump back into the world of international espionage, she told ComingSoon: "I think they've begun filming, or that was the plan, but you know in these trying times, the best laid plans of mice and men sometimes go awry.

"But I do have the pages, we'll just see when I get the ticket to fly and go do my part, but that's coming up and I'm really excited about it."

Elsewhere, Benji Dunn actor Pegg previously opened up about witnessing Cruise's death-defying stunts on set.

"When you watch the movie and you see him do those stunts and it's nail-biting, there's a real sense of genuine peril because you know that it's him. But you know he survived because, like, he was on Good Morning America that morning and did some press," he said on Conan.

"When we do it, when we watch him do it, we have no idea whether he's going to survive," he continued. "He rides a bike of a cliff and everyone is just there, waiting... checking whether they've got a good canopy. It's terrifying."

Mission: Impossible 7 currently has a scheduled release date of November 19, 2021, with an eighth movie pencilled in for 2022.
