Angelina Jolie Opened Up About Her Mother's Career In a Touching Letter
In a touching New York Times article, Angelina Jolie opened up about the loss of her mother, Marcheline Bertrand who died from breast cancer in 2007. The actress talked about how difficult mother's day is for those who have lost their mothers especially for those who have died during the coronavirus pandemic.
In the piece she writes, "I lost my mother in my thirties. When I look back to that time, I can see how much her death changed me. It was not sudden, but so much shifted inside. Losing a mother’s love and warm, soft embrace is like having someone rip away a protective blanket."

She also got candid about the more private parts of her mother's life, including her relationship with Jolie's father Jon Voight "When my father had an affair, it changed her life. It set her dream of family life ablaze. But she still loved being a mother. Her dreams of being an actor faded as she found herself, at the age of 26, raising two children with a famous ex who would cast a long shadow on her life," she said. "After she died, I found a video of her acting in a short film. She was good. It was all possible for her."

Over the last several months, Jolie has been at home with her six children (18-year-old Maddox, 16-year-old Pax, 15-year-old Zahara, 13-year-old Shiloh and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne) that she shares with Brad Pitt. She told TIME, "We're all locked in, we're doing all right."
