Angelo State baseball team earns No. 1 seed for South Central Regional

On the heels of winning the Lone Star Conference Baseball Tournament for the second-straight year, No. 6-ranked Angelo State University will be the No. 1 seed for the South Central Regional this weekend at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

This is the second-straight year for the Rams to host the regional tourney.

No. 4 seed Texas A&M-Kingsville will face No. 5 seed Metropolitan State University of Denver at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, and the loser of that matchup will face ASU at 6:30 p.m.

Colorado Mesa, the No. 2 seed, will host its section of the regional. Mesa will face the winner between No. 3 seed West Texas A&M and No. 6 St. Edward's.

Game times and tourney information, including ticket prices, will be announced later this week. The regional is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, May 19-21.

ASU improved to 45-10 after rolling to a 10-4 victory against West Texas in the LSC tourney finals Saturday night at Foster Field. The Rams have won five LSC tourney titles under head coach Kevin Brooks.

The winners of the two sections of the regional tourney will advance to the Super Regional May 27-28 at the site of the highest remaining seed.

The D-II College World Series is scheduled for June 4-11 at Cary, North Carolina.

The Rams are trying to make it to the CWS for a second-consecutive year.

In 2021, ASU enjoyed the deepest CWS run in program history when the Rams reached the semifinals before losing to eventual champion Wingate.
