Angelo State opens CWS play Sunday against Southern New Hampshire

No. 5 seed Angelo State University will face No. 4 Southern New Hampshire Sunday in the Rams' opening game of the NCAA Division II College World Series at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Central time.

The Rams are making their second-straight appearance in the CWS and the fifth time in program history under longtime head coach Kevin Brooks. ASU's first three CWS trips were in 2007, 2015 and 2016.

ASU (50-12) and SNHU (46-10) are the only teams in the eight-team field that competed in the CWS last year. The Rams enjoyed their best showing in program history by reaching the semifinals, and the Penmen went 0-2 in the double-elimination tourney.

North Greenville is the No. 1 seed, followed by Point Loma and Southern Arkansas. Rounding out the teams are: No. 6 Rollins, No. 7 Illinois Springfield and No. 8 West Chester.

The CWS is scheduled for Saturday, June 4 through Saturday, June 11.

ASU defeated Colorado Mesa in three games this past weekend at the South Central Super Regional at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

SNHU won the East Region title for the second-straight year. The Penmen went 21-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference en route to winning the conference tourney championship.

ASU is 24-0 on the road this season.

The Rams are the highest-scoring team in D-II with 629 runs in 2022. They're averaging 10.7 runs per game, which also leads the D-II ranks.

ASU has won 23 of its last 25 games. The Rams' 20-game winning streak was snapped by Lone Star Conference rival Texas A&M-Kingsville in ASU's second game of the South Central Regional at home on May 20.
