Angle Grinder Used in Brazen Bike Theft Outside London Shopping Center

The Metropolitan Police said they were investigating a bike theft on November 6, after video showed an angle grinder being used in broad daylight by a suspect on the lock of a high-end mountain bike outside a London shopping center.

Footage by Martin Pelant shows shoppers walking past as a hooded suspect uses a battery-powered tool to break the lock of the electric mountain bike. The model seen in the video would be worth around £3,500 (or $4,700), the maker’s website showed.

“Seriously? In broad daylight? With a grinder in front of a shopping center full of people? Today’s thieves really know no bounds,” Pelant commented on his post.

In a statement quoted by local news articles, the Metropolitan Police said that officers attended the Surrey Quays Shopping Centre and conducted initial enquiries. There were no reports of arrests. Credit: Martin Pelant via Storyful
