Ankeny's new Costco has an opening date.
The long-awaited, members-only warehouse store on the city's northeast side will open Nov. 17, according to the Costco website. The store is located at 4000 N.E. Spectrum Drive, just east of Interstate 35.
A site plan called for a 153,394-square-foot retail warehouse and tire center and 12 fuel pumps. It also will include a 37,080-square-foot distribution center — the company's first in the Midwest, according to city documents.
The company has posted job openings in all departments, including baker, cashier, licensed optician, pharmacy technician and forklift driver.
Construction on the new store started in the spring, and the walls went up fast. It will be a part of a planned broader development called Spectrum 36, a complex of retail, housing and green space north of Northeast 36th Street.
The Ankeny Costco is the fourth in Iowa, joining warehouses in West Des Moines, Coralville and Davenport.
