Anna Maria Island’s Topsail Steamer offers local ‘country boil’ seafood — with a twist

Topsail Steamer opened its first Florida store in April at 5321 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach.

It’s not a seafood restaurant but rather a place where customers pick out the seafood pot they want and take it home to steam and eat.

Whenever possible, the seafood is locally sourced. Notable exceptions at the Anna Maria Island store are coldwater lobster tails and snow crab legs, said manager Tiffany Kaminski, a Bradenton native.

Topsail Steamer offers seven signature buckets — actually 14 if you break out the Low Tider and High Tider buckets.

For instance, the Low Country Shrimp bucket costs $59 for the Low Tider, while the High Tider is $91. The difference is more peel-and-eat shrimp and Andouille sausage in one than the other.

Other choices include The Crabby Jimbo (shrimp and snowcrab), the Topsail Clam Bake (littleneck clams, shrimp and Kielbasa), The Full Steamer (shrimp, snow crab, Andouille sausage and littleneck clams), The Captain Pierce (shrimp, crab, large sea scallops, Andouille sausage and littleneck clams), the Wrightsville (shrimp, crabs scallops, Andouille and clams) and The Miss Emily II (shrimp, crab and Andouille, plus two lobster tails).

All buckets include sweet corn, red bliss potatoes, cocktail sauce, butter, seasoning, the pot for cooking and paper for the table.

Customers can build their own bucket as well.

The seafood pots come with cooking tips.

Topsail Steamer can also put together party pots for groups of 20 or more, Kaminski said.

“Since opening our first physical location in Topsail Island, N.C., back in 2017, we’ve grown to six locations (with more on the way) and have been honored to ship our pots to all 50 states,” the Topsail Steamer website says.

The company was founded by CEO Danielle Mahon.

“Danielle’s vision, from the beginning, has always been as simple as a good ‘low country boil’: use high quality ingredients, keep it simple and convenient and give people an experience,” the website says.

Topsail Steamer has stores in Bethany Beach, Del., Sea Isle City, N.J., Ocean City, N.J., Long Beach Island, N.J., Topsail Island, N.C., and Wrightsville Beach, N.C.

The Holmes Beach store is open noon to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
