Anne Hathaway has opened up about her decision to ditch her former vegan lifestyle and as it turns out, it was a pretty impulsive one!

The Oscar-winner – who is currently promoting her upcoming crime comedy film The Hustle – sat down for a length cover-story interview with Tatler where she touched on everything from growing up in Hollywood and getting marriage advice from Michael Caine to Matt Damon inadvertently encouraging her to eat fish again…

Hathaway recalled when herself, Damon and her husband Adam Schulman went for dinner in Iceland where the former was filming Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi outing Interstellar. According to the publication, it was when her Damon asked for the chef to surprise him with any dish from the menu that the 35-year-old caved.

“I was the only chick and I’m the vegan and everyone’s just going with the flow,” she explained. “So I asked, ‘Is your fish local?’ And they said: ‘Do you see that fjord?’ So I had a piece of salmon and my brain felt like a computer rebooting.”

Hathaway originally adopted a plant-based diet in 2012 when she was getting in shape to play Selina Kyle, otherwise known as Catwoman, in Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises.

Veganism isn’t the only thing the 35-year-old has given up in recent years. During the same interview, Hathaway revealed that she’s also decided to stop drinking alcohol since becoming a mother three years ago.

My issue is I just love it. So. Much,” she admits, candidly. “But the way I do it makes me unavailable for my son. My last hangover lasted for five days. I’d earned it.

“It was a day-drinking session with friends that went into an evening birthday party with one of my drinking buddies. I will never be that person who can nurse a glass of wine throughout an entire evening.”

The Hustle is released in UK cinemas on 10 May.
