SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg told authorities he thought he hit a deer on Saturday night when he struck and killed a pedestrian with his vehicle. Joseph Boever, 55, of Highmore, South Dakota, was killed after being struck by Ravnsborg's Ford Taurus, the South Dakota Highway Patrol said. The state attorney general called authorities after the crash, telling them he thought he had hit a deer, the state Highway Patrol said.
Tropical Storm Sally is expected to strengthen into a category 2 hurricane as it approaches Louisiana, with governor John Bel Edwards to request a federal declaration from Donald Trump ahead of landfall on Tuesday. Hurricane-force winds, life-threatening storm surges and flash flooding is forecast for much of southeast Louisiana, as well as Mississippi's coastal and southern regions. Mr Edwards said at a press conference on Sunday that Sally has shifted slightly west, bringing more of the state into its path, including parts of the New Orleans metro area.
A 14-year-old hunter apparently fell asleep in a Michigan field before he was run over and killed by a corn chopper, police say. The boy was dropped off in a field in Chandler Township early Saturday so he could hunt, the Huron County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Chandler Township is roughly 130 miles north of Detroit.
Police in the US state of Georgia say a sheriff's deputy has been fired after video emerged showing him pinning a black man to the floor and punching him in the face. Roderick Walker, 26, was a passenger in a car that was pulled over by deputies for an alleged broken rear light. Video shared on social media showed Mr Walker being held down by two white deputies, one of whom punches him.

Kenneth Walker has spoken out about the shooting of his girlfriend, Breonna Taylor, saying he can “no longer remain silent”. A majority of people think Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has more respect for the military than President Donald Trump, according to a new poll. Respondents to an ABC News/Ipsos poll were asked who has more respect for the military, with 61% saying Biden compared to 37% who said Trump. Eighty-one percent of Republicans said Trump had more respect for the troops while 93 percent of Democrats said Biden.

Local media coverage captured several officers pinning Josie Huang to the ground outside a hospital where two Los Angeles sheriff's deputies were being treated for gunshot wounds following an "ambush" in Compton on Saturday night.
