Anoka-Hennepin school district names Osseo’s McIntyre as next superintendent

Cory McIntyre of the nearby Osseo Area school district will be the next superintendent of Anoka-Hennepin, the state’s largest district.

The Anoka-Hennepin school board made its pick Wednesday night after two days of meetings and focus groups with McIntyre and the other finalist, Sartell-St. Stephens Superintendent Jeff Ridlehoover.

“Anoka-Hennepin Schools has demonstrated a commitment to excellence and a belief that all students can learn at high levels,” McIntyre said in an Anoka-Hennepin news release. “I believe the mission and vision of the district is a match with my philosophy of education, and my skills and abilities as a leader.”

McIntyre, who started out as a school psychologist, worked in Anoka-Hennepin from 2016-19 as an assistant superintendent and director of student support services. He left to take the Osseo job after Kate McGuire retired.

“I wasn’t looking for a change, but the work I did here was the most challenging and the most rewarding I’ve ever done,” McIntyre said.

He called returning to Anoka-Hennepin an “amazing opportunity.”

McGuire became Anoka-Hennepin’s interim superintendent this year after David Law left for the smaller but higher-paying Minnetonka district.

Anoka-Hennepin has around 38,000 students. Osseo is the state’s fifth-largest district, with 20,600 students.

McIntyre and the Anoka-Hennepin board will negotiate a contract with an expected start date of July 1, 2023.
