An arms warehouse of the Emco arms company, belonging to Bulgarian Emilian Gebrev, has exploded, Bulgarian News Agency BTA reported on June 25.

The scale of the damage is yet to be reported.

Locals heard "several strong explosions" in the area overnight on June 25. The Bourgas regional office of the Bulgarian Internal Affairs Ministry confirmed the information.

The facility has been closed. Luckily, no one was killed or injured by the blasts. A group of experts and police investigators is to be created in 72 hours in order to probe the incident.

Grebev told Bulgarian Radio Svoboda that a fire occurred in the warehouse at about 12.40 a.m. He called the cause of the incident "unclear," as there were no self-igniting products stored at the facility.

There was another explosion at one of Gebrev's warehouses at the end of July 2022, which the businessman said had most likely been deliberate arson. In 2014 an arms warehouse of the Bulgarian businessmen in Czechia was also set on fire. Media investigations revealed at that time that Gebrev had supplied weapons to Ukraine. He confirmed the reports in 2021.

After apparently being poisoned, Gebrev fell into a coma in Sofia in 2015 and narrowly survived. He, his son and a top manager of his firm were all diagnosed with severe poisoning.

Later, Helsinki University laboratory, specializing in chemical weapons, discovered traces of two organophosphates in blood samples, which proved a Novichok nerve agent had been used. Gebrev himself said he was sure that Russian special forces were behind all the attacks.
