The British are coming! The British are coming!

Hitmakers of the 1960s from Peter Asher and Jeremy Clyde to Herman’s Hermits are hitting Connecticut stages, and so is the anthemic ‘80s act Tears for Fears .

The Americans are fighting back with the Bob Seger tribute “Classic Seger” at two different large theaters in the state and multi-band bills at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport like Trombone Shorty, Robert Randolph and Mavis Staples (plus British singer Yola) on June 20 and Steve Miller Band and Dave Mason on June 24.

It’s also a week of Hollywood musicals, comical reality show commentary and Jon Secada crooning for free outdoors.

Here are some of the top things to do and see this week in Connecticut arts.

Peter Asher and Jeremy Clyde Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook

Peter Asher of Peter & Gordon, who had a worldwide hit with Paul McCartney’s “World Without Love,” joins Jeremy Clyde of Chad & Jeremy, who followed hits like “Summer Song” with one of the best psychedelic pop albums of all time, “Of Cabbages and Kings.” Sadly, Peter and Jeremy’s erstwhile partners Gordon and Chad have both passed away. Two shows, June 18 at 2 and 6 p.m., at The Kate in Old Saybrook. katharinehepburntheater.org.

In anticipation of the new live theater adaptation of the 1950 Gene Kelly/Judy Garland Hollywood musical “Summer Stock” at the Goodspeed Opera House opening in July, New London’s Garde Arts Center is showing the original movie on June 21 at 7:30 p.m. Some of the Goodspeed folks involved with the new version will be there to talk before the screening. Classic Seger: Bob Seger’s Greatest Hits Live The Bushnell, 166 Capitol Ave., Hartford Warner Theatre, 68 Main St., Torrington

Bob Seger forged an old-time rock & roll bond between the Midwest and the East Coast in the 1960s, gaining a reputation as one of the top club acts in the country before getting national attention with a string of hit albums in the ‘70s and ‘80s such as “Night Moves,” “Stranger in Town” and “The Distance.” Seger retired after a farewell tour in 2019. A tribute band so devoted to classic Seger that it’s actually the name of the band has over 30 songs in its repertoire, from rabble-rousers like “Katmandu,” “Get Out of Denver” and “Feel Like a Number” to his soft-rock standards “Against the Wind” and “We’ve Got Tonight.” Classic Seger makes two stops in Connecticut this week: June 22 at 7:30 p.m. at The Bushnell in Hartford ($46-$60; bushnell.org) and June 23 at the Warner Theatre’s Oneglia Auditorium in Torrington ($32-$52; warnertheatre.org).
