Shortly after Steele Solutions moved its headquarters to South Milwaukee Centerline Design & Fabrication, Inc. is following suit.

Centerline, a company that offers turn-key solutions for end-to-end manufacturing, is moving its headquarters and operations from Waukegan, Illinois, to 1123C E. Rawson Ave. on the former Bucyrus campus in South Milwaukee.

The company worked with Milwaukee 7 and the City of South Milwaukee to make the move happen after outgrowing its existing space, according to a June 5 news release. This new space will allow the company to expand, including possibly adding more staff.

“In our discussions with them and Milwaukee 7, we concluded that this was the best place for them to grow,” said South Milwaukee Mayor Jim Shelenske. “We’re proud to include them with the high-quality manufacturing tenants already onsite.”

Some of those businesses include Roadrunner Transportation Services, Dawn Equipment, Styled Aesthetic and Badger Industries. These businesses started moving in after Caterpillar, Inc. consolidated its operations north of Rawson Avenue in 2018 and Reich Brothers purchased the 27-acre campus and put it on the market.

A large portion of the campus may also soon be turned into apartments, commercial space and green space if a project from Scott Crawford, Inc. and J. Jeffers Co. is approved.

President of Centerline Design & Fabrication Adam Buckley said the company is excited to call South Milwaukee home.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to the city of South Milwaukee, in particular Mayor Shelenske and his staff, as well as the economic development and building departments, and to the M7 group for all their support and assistance that was graciously provided in this transition,” Buckley said in a statement.

Rebecca Gries, Milwaukee 7 vice president of corporate attraction and expansion, said this move “proves the M7 region continues to attract growth-oriented manufacturing companies seeking to capitalize on the skilled workforce and supply chain available here.”

Centerline offers custom fabrications for residential, commercial and industrial uses with detailed modeling of the project, plus mobile welding and fabrication services, according to the company website. The company creates everything from small parts to entire assemblies.
