Another death of top manager in energy sector occurs in Russia

Lukoil, Russia's second-largest oil producer, has announced the death of Vladimir Nekrasov, its Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Details: Nekrasov was 66 years old. According to the preliminary conclusion of doctors, he died from acute heart failure.

Background:

Since the beginning of 2022, approximately 40 top managers, businessmen and other Russian executives have died in Russia under uncertain circumstances. In some cases, they died together with their families.

The wave of deaths of top executives in the Russian energy sector, which also began in 2022, has also been noticed.

As for Lukoil, in early August 2022, Lukoil Vice President Ravil Maganov fell out of the window of the Central Clinical Hospital.

Alexander Subbotin, the company's former top manager, died in May 2022 in Mytishchi near Moscow, after an anti-hangover session with shamans.

Leonid Shulman can also be mentioned among the top managers of Russia's largest oil and gas companies. Shulman, then 60-year-old head of Gazprom Invest's transport service, was found dead in an elite village in Leningrad Oblast in January 2022.

61-year-old Alexander Tyulyakov, Deputy General Director of Gazprom's Unified Settlement Centre for Corporate Security, was found dead on 25 February 2022. Police have preliminarily established that the man committed suicide. A note was found next to his body.

Vladislav Avayev, former Gazprombank Vice President, his daughter and wife were found dead in Moscow on 18 April 2022. The bodies were found in an apartment on Universitetsky Prospekt; they were discovered by a relative who had been unable to reach the Avayevs for several days.

Sergei Protosenya, former Novatek top manager, his wife and daughter were found dead in Spain on 21 April 2022. Their bodies were found in a house in Lloret de Mar (Girona province). Protosenya had a fortune of €400 million and lived in France. The family came to Spain for the Easter holidays.

The body of 61-year-old Yuri Voronov, the head of the Astra Shipping transport company, which was engaged in Arctic contracts for Gazprom, was found in the suburbs of St. Petersburg in July 2022. Voronov was found in a swimming pool with a bullet hole in his head.

One of the most recent deaths occurred in the spring of 2023, when Igor Shkurko, the First Deputy General Director and Chief Engineer of Yakutskenergo, was found dead in a Yakutsk detention centre.
