Another one gone: Rite Aid in Moon Plaza to close on Oct. 25

MOON TWP. ― As Rite Aid pharmacies around the nation continue to announce closures, another local spot for the chain has announced it will be leaving the community in two weeks.

According to the staff at the Moon Township Rite Aid, the store will permanently close its doors on Oct. 25. During the final two weeks in the Moon Plaza, the store will offer clearance deals of up to 75% off on some items as they attempt to clear their convenience store inventory.

This will be the second Rite Aid location to close in the region, as the Rochester Rite Aid announced it would be closing on Oct. 18. According to reporting from the Wall Street Journal, the chain plans to close over 500 stores nationally as the company files for bankruptcy, including "dozens" of stores in the Pittsburgh region.

While signs announcing the date were not posted at the store on Thursday morning, staff at the Moon Township Rite Aid confirmed that their store would be closing on Oct. 25. The store is the second in the region to announce it would be closing this month.

Staff said that those with prescriptions at Rite-Aid who want to stay with the chain can transfer their pick-ups to the location in Coraopolis at 412 Broadway St. Those who want to continue picking up their prescriptions in Moon Township also have several alternative pharmacies within a mile of the Rite Aid location, including Giant Eagle, Walgreens and Walmart.

Moon Township's Rite Aid will mark the third chain pharmacy closure in the region during the month of October. In addition to the Rochester Rite Aid location, staff at the CVS Pharmacy in Hopewell Township announced their store near the Five Points intersection is scheduled to close on Oct. 24.
