Another prize-winning Mega Millions lottery ticket sold at same South Carolina store

For the second time in little more than two weeks, the same South Carolina store sold a ticket that won a significant prize in a Mega Millions drawing.

While nobody won the $1 billion-plus grand prize in Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing, someone who purchased a ticket at an Orangeburg gas station/convenience store matched enough numbers to win a five-figure jackpot.

The $10,000 ticket was bought for $2 at the Gaz-Bah gas station/convenience store at 951 Chestnut St., South Carolina Education Lottery officials said in a news release.

The store that’s near the South Carolina State University campus is also where a $2 million winning ticket was sold prior to the July 14 Mega Millions drawing.

The prize-winning ticket from Tuesday’s drawing matched four of the five white ball numbers and the gold Megaball number, according to the release.

The winning numbers from Tuesday’s drawing were 8, 24, 30, 45, 61 and Megaball: 12.

The winner has 180 days to claim the prize, according to lottery officials.

The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

The odds of matching four white balls along with the Megaball are 1-in-931,001, according to the lottery website.

“Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you’re ready to come forward to claim the prize,” lottery officials said.

The Gaz-Bah convenience store will receive a commission of $100 when the winning ticket is claimed and turned in to lottery officials.

It was one of three tickets sold in South Carolina prior to Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing that turned out to be $10,000 winners, according to the release. The other prize-winning tickets were sold in Myrtle Beach and Travelers Rest, lottery officials said.

Another $10,000 winning Mega Millions ticket was sold in North Augusta prior to the July 28 drawing.

Because nobody has won the grand prize in the past 30 drawings, the Mega Millions jackpot is estimated to be $1.25 billion when the next drawing is held on Friday night. That’s the fourth-largest grand prize in Mega Millions history.

The largest prize in Mega Millions history, $1.537 billion, was won on a ticket bought in Simpsonville, South Carolina in 2018.

The odds of winning the grand prize in Mega Millions are 1-in-303 million, lottery officials said.
