Another real estate group and two other companies take former east-side Weigand space

There are three new businesses at the former J.P. Weigand & Sons east-side office at 6530 E. 13th St., two of which bought the building together.

At Home Wichita Real Estate and Capital III are the companies that purchased the 13,000-square-foot building.

“We really just have a lot of like-minded vision for how to do business,” said Joel Dolloff, who is partners in At Home with Lee Farley and Nate Kirk.

Tapestry Planning, which used to lease space from At Home at 9435 E. Central, is leasing space at the new building as well.

Dolloff said the Tapestry partners also share a similar vision in addition to being good friends.

“We just have great friendships between the businesses.”

At Home formed almost four years ago and now has about 20 agents who sell residential real estate. A sister company, At Home Wichita Property Management, also started last year.

Capital III is what chairman Pete Ochs describes as a holding management company. Subsidiaries include Electrex, a Hutchinson-based manufacturing operation; Seat King, which builds industrial seating; and Rio Energy, which builds hydroelectric projects.

“The companies are really based in Hutchinson, and we’ve grown rapidly,” Ochs said.

However, many of its employees live in Wichita, so he’s moving the corporate headquarters here with about 20 employees.

The businesses employ many other people, including ones in Mexico and at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.

“We pay them fair market value rates,” Ochs said.

“We’ve given them a good job so they come out of prison with money.”

He said the recidivism rate for the prisoners he employs is substantially lower than the overall recidivism rate.

Ochs said all his businesses are about making an impact economically, morally and through authentic relationships.

“We believe the purpose of business is to really be . . . a catalyst for flourishing,” he said. “And if you do that, the world will be a better place.”

Ochs said those values are in line with his new neighbors, too.

Tapestry Planning is a financial planning business that also does insurance design and management, investment management and tax design to help its clients understand the best products for financial growth.

Caleb Klein, who is partners in Tapestry with Cooper Hanning, said the company started in 2019. It began 2021 with three employees and ended the year with seven, so Klein said they already were seeking more space when At Home and Capital III purchased the new building.

The Tapestry tagline is inspiring financial masterpieces. Klein said ancient families would created tapestries to record their heritage and greatest achievements.

“We want to help families do that in their finances.”

All the businesses will share common areas in the new building.

Carl Hebert of InSite Real Estate Group and Weigand’s Morrie Sheets handled the sale of the building.

Weigand’s east office is now at 8535 E. 21st St.

Dolloff said the deal for the new building came together quickly.

“Now we’re living in construction a tiny bit.”
