Highway 395 through Kennewick was backed up for miles early Tuesday after an truck flipped just south of the blue bridge.
The Washington State Department of Transportation posted at 5:40 a.m. the overturned semi truck and its trailers were blocking the right, southbound lane.
DOT advised motorists to expect traffic backups and to build in extra travel time while the wreck is removed.
The semi was carrying crushed cars, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Chris Thorson. He advised that the right lane will be closed over Columbia Drive for an extended period of time.
No injuries were reported.
The blue bridge is currently undergoing a year-long, $33 million repainting project.
Motorists are encouraged to use other routes, including the cable bridge and the Interstate 182 bridge between Richland and Pasco.
