The foreigner, whose citizenship was not disclosed, confessed to the spying charge and now faces up to ten years in prison.

The man has been in Poland since January, collecting and passing information to Russia. He focused on critical infrastructure in the Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian voivodeships in north-central Poland, investigators said. He also was spying on Poland’s security service.

The detainee confessed to espionage during interrogation. He also disclosed how he was recruited by Russian intelligence.

The suspect was persuaded to spy while in Poland. The Russian special service has been working with the man since at least January 2023.

Poland detained nine people suspected of spying for Russian special services in early March.

Journalists said that the group was preparing sabotage on Polish territory and monitoring the transfer of Western weapons to Ukraine.

Later, Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak confirmed that Poland had dismantled a Russian spy network operating in the country.
