Another seven teams and 14 individuals advance to State cross country meet on Tuesday

Another regional meet, another outstanding day for the Panhandle.

The Region 1 cross country meet for 1A, 3A and 5A took place Tuesday in Lubbock one day after the 2A, 4A and 6A Regional was held. As a result of Tuesday's action, another seven Panhandle teams and 14 additional individuals will be heading to Round Rock next week.

The top performing Panhandle group was the 1A girls where the top three teams all hail from. Springlake-Earth took first place with a team score of 97 followed by second place White Deer (105) and third place Nazareth (109).

Springlake-Earth also had the top individual runner in 1A in Taytum Goodman, who finished with a time of 11:06.4, an astonishing minute and 44 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Also advancing to state as individuals in 1A girls are Bobbie Renee Fouquet (Claude, eighth place, 13:19.3), Shealee Brannon (Claude, 11th place, 13:22.3), Melody Rampley (Silverton, 12th place, 13:22.9) and Ali Friemel (Groom, 21st place, 13:51.5).

Two boy's teams will advance to State out of 1A as Texline finished third with 122 points and Happy took fourth with 132 points.

Individually, Alex Acevedo (Silverton, third place, 17:42.2), Bryson Brockman (Nazareth, 10th place, 18:20.3), Hunter Lovell (Claude, 13th place, 18:29.2), Joshua Booth (Hedley, 14th place, 18:32.5) and Julian Barton (Follett, 25th place, 19:11.1) will all be heading to state as well.

While no teams will be advancing in 3A boys, there were three individuals who punched their tickets on Tuesday. Dimmitt's Azariah Gonzales took fourth place overall with a time of 16:23.0, Zackary Nichols of Bushland finished 12th with a time of 16:55.8, and Hugo Briones of Tulia took 13th with a time of 17:05.3.

In 3A Girls, two Panhandle teams will be moving on to Round Rock as Dalhart took second place with a score of 109 and Canadian finished fourth with 174. Two individuals will be joining them in Friona's Yvonne Legaretta (second place, 12:30.1) and Tulia's Diana Briones (16th place, 13:09.3).

Finally, the Panhandle will have one representative in 5A. Amarillo High's Emma Milsow finished in 15th place in the girl's competition with a time of 19:31.1. No teams or individual boys advanced in 5A.

The State meet will be held Nov. 4-5 at Old Settler's Park.
