Anson band is 15th at UIL state marching band contest

SAN ANTONIO - Shiner High school was named champion of the Class 2A University Interscholastic League marching band contest held Tuesday at the Alamodome.

Second was Harper and third was Clarksville. The finals were Tuesday evening.

Austin Vandergrift won the Class 6A title with Hebron, in the Lewisville ISD, second. The schools were in reverse order in the prelims.

The Class 4A competition was scheduled for Wednesday.

Other 2A finalists were Tenaha (4), Panhandle (5), Valley Mills (6) and Sundown (7). Shiner was judge the top band in the preliminary round.

Panhandle was second in the preliminary round, with Sundown sixth. Other Panhandle schools competing were Hale Center (12th) and New Deal (17th)

From the Abilene area, Anson High was judged 15th of the 18 schools in the preliminaries and did not make the finals.

The Tigers marching band competed in the Class 1A contest in 2013 and 2A contest in 2015, neither time making the finals.

Mason, south of San Angelo, was 10th in the Tuesday morning prelims.

Forsan was 13th and will perform Friday in Brownwood when the Buffaloes take on Stamford in a Class 2A football playoff game.
