A question and answer with Griswold First Selectman candidate Tina Falck

Tina Falck is one of the candidates for Griswold First Selectman. For Griswold, The Bulletin sent questionnaires to all candidates in the Board of Selectmen and Board of Education elections. The answers here have been edited for conciseness and clarity.

Why are you running for First Selectman?

I am running for the position of Griswold’s First Selectman to restore unity in town.  There seems to be division and discontent within employee ranks and among various Boards and Commissions.  Information and response times to questions and inquiries need to be addressed promptly and truthfully.  Economic development is a primary concern among our residents.  Potential developers looking to come to Griswold do not see favorable conditions within our town.  This must change.

What makes you stand out from other candidates?

I have been a Griswold town employee for 17 years, serving as the Senior Center Director, Municipal Agent for the Elderly, and Social Service contact for all residents.  I am familiar with town government, and I am closely connected with residents and their concerns. Additionally, I have worked with our State Representatives and Senators cohesively on numerous occasions to find ways to assist Griswold.

What do you think is the most important issue in town and why?

As stated above, Economic Development is one of the most important issues at this time.  Bringing business into Griswold will help stabilize our tax base, allowing relief for our residents.

How would you address the issue?

This issue can be addressed by first, stabilizing the rifts that exist.  Griswold must be seen as a cohesive and welcoming community.   We must look back to see where things changed on projects that were on a positive path. Why did they decide to go elsewhere?

What change would you like to see in Griswold during your term, should you win?

Primarily, all of the above.   In addition, I would resume monthly department head and staff meetings.  Communication across the board needs to be restored.

Anything else you would like to add?

While I am an Unaffiliated voter, I have been endorsed by the Democratic Town Committee.  My running mate is Richard Grabowski, making a very strong team. I am thankful for this endorsement.
