Man killed in Fairfield Township Walmart shooting identified
The Butler County Coroner released Friday the name of the man killed in the Fairfield Township Walmart shooting.
Adam Lee Black, 35, of Columbus was fatally shot attempting to stop a man who was trying to steal items from the store, according to Fairfield Township police.
An employee at the Walmart was also shot in the incident, but survived.
The suspect was arrested early Friday morning.
Anthony Freeman Brown, 32, is charged with aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and weapons charges stemming from Thursday's shooting.
During a hearing Friday morning, a Butler County judge set the bond for the man accused of fatally shooting a Walmart shopper at $5 million.
Brown, 32, of Hamilton was arrested early Friday after police said he killed one person and wounded another as he tried to get away from a Fairfield Township Walmart during a robbery.
Brown's attorney, Clyde Bennett, said the bond amount is unconstitutional.
"It is excessive," Bennett said. "The court's decision on bond will be challenged in the Butler County Court of Common Pleas and if necessary the 12th District Court of Appeals."
About six months ago, Brown posted a $200,000 bond in a separate armed robbery case, according to court records.
Butler County prosecutors say Brown is accused of robbing a Minnicks Drive-Thru convenience store in Hamilton on Oct. 23.
Brown was indicted in the drive-thru robbery in December, court records state. He posted the bond with the assistance of a bail bond company on Dec. 21 and was released from jail to await trial at home. Butler County chief felony prosecutor Brad Burress said he does not believe Brown was placed on electronic GPS monitoring as a condition of his bond.
Bennett is representing Brown in the drive-thru case as well.
Bennett said Friday that the $5 million bond is "inconsistent with the Ohio Supreme Court's recent decision in Dubose vs. McGuffey."
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters and others have criticized this ruling. They say it bars judges from considering public safety when setting a bond.
Deters and Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost are pushing for a constitutional amendment to reverse the decision.
What happened at Walmart
Brown was attempting to steal items from the Walmart store on Princeton Road when a shopper tried to intervene, according to Fairfield Township police. Then he ran toward the exit where another shopper tried to stop him.

Police said Brown shot and killed that shopper and shot an employee in the area who was trying to help.
The Walmart employee remains in serious condition at UC West Chester Hospital. The identities of the victims have not been released.
Officers tracked the suspect by cell phone pings to the Fairfield Inn off Roosevelt Boulevard and Interstate 75 in Middletown, according to Butler County dispatchers.
A SWAT team was in place shortly before 4 a.m. and multiple law enforcement officers were seen going into the hotel.
During a search of the hotel, Brown jumped out of a first-floor window and dropped a handgun as he attempted to run, police said, but was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
Brown is being held at the Butler County Jail awaiting his next hearing which is scheduled for June 1.
