Anthony Joshua reveals he spoke to Stormzy after Maya Jama selfie sparked romance rumours
Anthony Joshua shut down any rumours of tension between him and Stormzy after a picture he took with the rapper's ex-girlfriend Maya Jama sparked romance rumours.
Joshua and Jama posed in a now-deleted Instagram as the world champ taught the presenter how to box.
However, as Jama had recently confirmed her split from rapper Stormzy, social media users began to speculate about their friendship.
The 29 year old sports star has now set the record straight, revealing that he had a chat with the Vossi Bop rapper about the photo. He also clarified that he was simply working on a shoot with Jama.
Speaking in New York at a roundtable ahead of the press conference for his rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr, he told people to “take it how they want”.
Joshua explained: “So I took a little picture with one of my friends', a musician, his ex, in the gym and it gets blown out of proportion. Like, ‘Ohhhh, what’s he doing with her?’, but we were just working on a shoot.
“But then me and him spoke and I said, “It’s the bloggers job to blog, it’s the social media guy’s job to make good social content, it’s the internet guy’s job to make clickbait”. So people take it how they want.”
Jama and Joshua were working on a campaign together for Lucozade when the BBC presenter shared behind-the-scenes pictures on her social media.
She wrote: “Working with this one today @anthonyfjoshua.”
She also shared some behind the scenes videos from the shoot over on Instagram Stories, sitting with the Londoner on the side of the boxing ring before taking some tips from the former world heavyweight champ.
“Right, so he’s teaching me how to fight,” she told her one million Instagram followers as she joked around with Anthony.
Stormzy and Jama’s split was received with shock to their fans, as the couple had celebrated Jama’s 25th birthday party in London the weekend prior to the break-up announcement in August.
Just this week the exes risked an awkward reunion on the red carpet when they arrived at the GQ Men Of The Year awards separately.
