Anthony police: Ex-boyfriend charged with extortion, rape after nanny cam captures assault

LAS CRUCES – Prosecutors seek to keep a Las Cruces man accused of stalking, blackmailing and sexually assaulting an Anthony woman jailed after his arrest last week.

Jesus Jose Pallares, 33, of Las Cruces, stands charged with five counts of extortion, three counts of criminal sexual contact, and two counts of criminal sexual penetration.

He's also charged with four counts of battery, two counts of unauthorized distribution of sensitive images, one violation of a retaining order, and one count of aggravated stalking.

Anthony police stated in a court filing that Pallares assaulted his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his children on Oct. 2. Police said Pallares' ex-girlfriend activated a nanny cam when Pallares arrived at her house. She told police that she had a history with Pallares and wanted to document any misconduct that occurred.

The nanny cam showed that Pallares threatened to share sexually explicit photos of his ex-girlfriend if she did not have sex with him.

Police arrested Pallares on Nov. 3.

On Monday, prosecutors filed a petition requesting a judge to jail Pallares without bond. For a judge to keep Pallares jailed indefinitely, prosecutors must prove that Pallares is dangerous and that no conditions of release could assure the victim's safety or the general public's safety.

Pallares will likely face a judge later this week.
