Anthony Schlegel joining Jags to be new strength and conditioning coach

Urban Meyer is rebuilding the Jacksonville Jaguars’ organization from the ground up. As expected, many changes appear to be on the horizon and the changes will go beyond new position coaches. There appears to also be a change coming in terms of the strength and conditioning department as Meyer has reached out to a familiar face from Ohio State.

Anthony Schlegel, a former NFL linebacker and former Ohio State strength and conditioning assistant coach, has joined the Jags’ staff. He revealed the news via 97.1 The Fan on the “Morning Juice” where he served as a radio host.

“You have the opportunity to work for someone you believe in and trust and understand their culture and what they want in an organization with Coach Meyer. All gas, no brakes, let’s go,” Schlegel said Monday morning.

Like many of Meyer’s assistants, Schlegel is clearly someone the three-time national champion trusts. His addition also is proof of the thorough commitment to getting the organization on track in a variety of ways.

Schlegel was a Buckeyes assistant under Mickey Marotti. He eventually left Ohio State and started his own company, The Difference USA, which specialized in making strength and conditioning equipment for the league, NCAA, and high school athletes.

Schlegel spent his time as a professional player with the New York Jets, who drafted him in the third-round of the 2006 NFL Draft (No. 76 overall). He also spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and the United Football League’s Florida Tuskers.

Schlegel is a well-known figure at Ohio State not just because he was a player there, but due to a situation where he tackled a fan during a Buckeyes game in October of 2014. The fans somehow got past security and entered the field of play, so Schlegel decided to get involve and help bring him down.
