Antique show and Turkey Trot kick off Thursday

Sep. 6—It's one of the busiest weeks in Daviess County. Both the White River Valley Antique Association Antique Show, now in its 38th year, and the Montgomery Ruritan Turkey Trot, now its 51st year, will begin on Thursday and run through Sunday.

The features make at the antique show, held at the will be International Harvester tractors and gas engines and antique trucks makes E through H. Many flea market vendors and food booths will be set up on the grounds and the Homespun Market will be open each day. Daily admission is $5 for adults with children 12 and under admitted free.

Demonstrations on blacksmithing, cider and sorghum making, threshing, baling, horse plowing and more will begin at 9 a.m. each day. Live entertainment will be featured in the shelter house each evening around 6:30.

Thursday's special events include the wagon train which will leave from the Odon Park at 1 p.m., the horse pull at 7 p.m. On Friday, school children will be on the grounds to get a live lesson in history. In addition to the demonstrations, students and other visitors will be able to attend school at the one room school house. Class starts every half hour. The antique tractor pull will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, a pet parade will be held at 11 a.m. lots of live entertainment will take place throughout the day, the antique tractor parade will take place at 2 p.m. followed by the kids tractor pedal pull at 3 p.m. Garden tractor pulls will begin at 6 p.m. Events wind down on Sunday with the church service at 9 a.m., music at noon and another antique tractor parade at 2.

In Montgomery, events will get started Thursday at 5 p.m. with free carnival rides with paid admission, turkey races at 6 p.m. bingo at 6:30 p.m. and tractor pulls at 6:45. Admission for Thursday and Sunday is $10. Friday and Saturday admission is $25.

"I'm very excited about this year's festival. For the first time, we have four live bands performing," said Ruritan member DeWayne Shake. "On the big stage Friday night, Larry Fleet will be there, and Saturday a big new star on the country music scene Kameron Marlowe. Both are rising stars who have been on the road with the Morgan Wallen Dangerous Tour the hottest tour of the summer, so they know how to get the crowd fired up. But after the big shows each night, we also have live music in the beer garden for the after party. Friday night, "Dirty Deeds USA," A Tribute to AC/DC is back from Ohio and these guys are awesome. Saturday night in the beer garden, we have local favorite Trey Knepp. These concerts will start around 9:30pm each night."

Shake said the headlining acts will take the stage at 8 p.m. both nights.

The carnival will open at noon on Saturday and Sunday.

"We have had a lot of great feedback since we started doing the free carnival rides The parents appreciate the fact you don't have to purchase armbands on top of gate admission. We will have a nice midway with rides and games for the kids," said Shake. "The famous marinated turkey strips will be back in the annex building. We will also have burgers and lots of other great food. Plus, several food vendors on the grounds offering a variety of different food options. So be sure to bring your appetite."

Other Saturday events include mud volleyball at 11:30, corn hole tournament at noon, pedal tractor pulls at 1, challenge games at 1:30 and turkey races at 6:30 p.m.

Championship turkey races will be held at 12:15 Sunday followed by the youth mud volleyball tournament and will wrap up with the demolition derby at 1:15.

"The club has worked really hard putting together a great event for the whole family. We hope you will come out and join in the fun. Season passes are only $45 and that is good for all four days. Passes are on sale at all area banks, and local businesses in Montgomery. Music, mud volleyball, tractor pulls, a demo derby, turkey racing, it has all the elements of a great weekend in Montgomery," said Shake.
