Antique tractor show, fireworks, cornhole and more: 14 things to do this weekend
The first weekend in August gives you a chance to check out some live music, fireworks, an antique tractor and engine show and so much more.
Here are 14 things to do in the Freeport area this weekend:
53rd Annual Antique Tractor and Engine Show
What: Feel free to bring whatever antique car, truck, tractor or engine you have and enjoy the weekend. The club's collection of firetrucks and locally built Henney vehicles will be on display along with a group of local vintage cars and trucks. The Club’s Silver Creek and Stephenson Railroad will offer steam train rides from using the recently repaired 1912 Heisler Logging Locomotive. The Silver Creek Museum in the Old Stone 2 Story County Poor Farm building across from the railroad, features 40 rooms of displays of local history including farming, businesses, railroads, general store, "one room school," a model train room, a "war room" with special displays. Food will be available inside the museum throughout the day.

Cost: Free admission; $5 to ride the train and tour the museum. Cooper building is free admission, but donations are appreciated.

Music on Debate Square – Funkatude
What: Bring your lawn chairs and join us for music by local musicians. The August performer is Funkatude.

Forreston fireworks at dusk
What: Come watch a fireworks show in Forreston. The Boosters will have concessions open.

The Ex-Bombers
What: The Ex-Bombers are a sinister psychedelic blues duo from Illinois known for primal pop hooks, magnetic performances, and clever songwriting. The pair uses an electric 8-string octave bass, a jazz drum set, and a pair of wrecking ball voices to spread their resonant blues-meets-garage-meets-jazz sound to stages around the U.S.

The Jimmys Mt. Morris Friday Night Concert Series
What: Local blues, funk, R&B and soul band will perform.

Wellness 5k and 2.5-mile walk
What: The race will begin at Lena Brewing Company. Runners will take Stagecoach Trail to Cedarville Blacktop, turn around, make a quick lap around the PCE Campus and return to Lena Brewing Co. Registration includes official t-shirt, goodie bag, photo, one Lena pint and a light lunch. Pets are welcome.

9th Annual DAV Ride
What: The Disabled American Veterans Blackhawk chapter #29 (DAV) is partnering with the Veterans Transitional Center- Freeport 501 C3 (VTC) to enrich the lives of our disabled veterans by assisting veterans back into society. Many riders from across the states of Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin join efforts to help raise money to assist veterans throughout the U.S. Event includes the ride, a silent auction, street dance and a big raffle.
