One thing many travelers discovered during the pandemic was the fun to be found in a “staycation,” exploring sights and destinations close to home that might otherwise have been overlooked.

The pandemic may be over, but staycations remain. And central Ohio residents have two new and intriguing lodging options in two of Columbus’ oldest but most intriguing neighborhoods.

The lodgings, opened by two affiliated Columbus craft breweries will, no doubt, be favorite destinations for out-of-town visitors. But the owners also hope to give locals a better chance to explore two lively entertainment districts – and taste some great beer.

Antiques on High Townhouse in the Village is a two-bedroom, one-bath townhouse at 18 Stimmel Street in German Village, just steps away from the Antiques on High (antiquesonhigh.com) brewery, 714 S. High St.

And Seventh Son Brewing Co. (seventhsonbrewing.com) in Italian Village is opening its own rental home at 236 E. Fourth St., across the street from the brewery.

Seventh Son Brewing co-founder Collin Castore said he has lived in central Ohio for “30 years now and I still find great little pockets of the city I didn’t know about.

“We believe in the neighborhoods we’re in, and we like to show those off.”

Antiques on High brewery is located in a former antiques store and emphasizes that connection with vintage decor and venerable sour and wild beer styles in addition to hazy, hoppy IPAs and pale ales.

The retro style is carried over into the townhouse with “tasteful vintage breweriana and furnishing − an elevated “grandpa’s basement” kind of vibe,” Castore said.

The pet-friendly townhouse also features indoor and outdoor dining spaces, electric fireplace, table tennis, record player with vintage records, city skyline views and, perhaps best of all, a full kitchen stocked with Seventh Son beer.

Overnight guests can explore and enjoy the atmosphere of German Village and the Brewery District – and, of course, the beer – at greater leisure than if they had to return home that night.

Visitors will find a delightful array of diversions, restaurants, shops and pubs. Iconic Schmidt’s (schmidthaus.com) sausage haus – and its equally iconic jumbo cream puffs – is a top destination for many visitors. The seemingly endless book-lined corridors of The Book Loft (bookloft.com) are a favorite spot for bibliophiles from across the country to seek out treasures. Or guests can take in a lively show at Shadowbox Live (shadowboxlive.org), housed in the historic Worly Building in the Brewery District.

Antiques on High will also use the townhouse for special events such as pop-up tastings and cocktail classes, Castore said.

“We’re just trying to ... figure out some creative ways to use the space,” he said.

The new Seventh Son rental in Italian Village was the last house on the block awaiting renovation, Castore said.

The interior was stripped down to the studs and completely renovated as a three-bedroom, three-bath getaway rental. Finishing touches on the renovation are underway and the unit should be available for guests later this month.

The decor will include a collection of Seventh Son posters and memorabilia from the brewery’s decade-long history.

“It’s a nice nod to Seventh Son and will work for those who are already fans of the brewery, but also for others,” Castore said.

Castore said he hopes guests will enjoy the fare at Seventh Son across the street, of course, but also take time to enjoy the thriving Italian Village and Short North districts.

Both properties will be available for rent through Airbnb, with the German Village rental beginning at about $200 per night. The larger Italian Village rental will cost slightly more, Castore said.
