A Shallotte subdivision will soon see apartments nearby.

The Shallotte Board of Aldermen approved a conditional rezoning request at its August meeting that will make way for a four-building apartment project near the Wildwoods Village community.

The property is located at 98 Wildwood St., an area that was previously zoned for highway business development, but the conditionally approved rezoning changed its use to multi-family to make way for the apartment project.

The rezoning will allow the construction of four two-story apartment buildings on the 4.74-acre site. Each building is set to have 16 apartment units, making a total of 64 apartment units in the complex.

An increasing number of housing developments have been approved in the town of Shallotte in recent years, following the demand from the population boom seen across the county. Last year alone, the largely commercially focused town approved plans for hundreds of homes.

The complex will be located nearby the Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q, Rodeway Inn & Suites, and SureStay, just off U.S. 17 in Shallotte. Wildwood Street meets Old Shallotte Road near U.S. 17.
