Apartments in OKC and Tulsa, for the money, are a lot bigger than most: How do we compare?

Apartment renters in Oklahoma City and Tulsa get some of the most bang for their buck, an online apartment marketplace says.

RentCafe.com reported the cities where renters can get the most apartment space for $1,500, and Oklahoma's two biggest cities landed in the top five: Tulsa at No. 3, and Oklahoma City at No. 4.

How OKC and Tulsa compare to the nation in the size of apartment that renters get for $1,500 a month, according to RentCafe.com

  • Renters in Oklahoma City can get an apartment with an average size of 1,330 square feet for $1,500. That’s about six times larger than the average apartment in Manhattan (240 square feet) for the same rent.

  • Renters in Tulsa get slightly more space, 1,368 square feet, for $1,500. "In fact, as one of the best places to live in 2022, Tulsa boasts an excellent track record when it comes to the cost of living and housing," RentCafe says.

  • Nationally, $1,500 gets you 783 square feet of space, on average.

  • No. 1? "When it comes to big cities, the best deals can be found in Wichita, Kansas, where $1,500 will stretch to as much as 1,463 square feet. Here, renters with this monthly budget get to enjoy as much space as a three-bedroom, maybe even a four-bedroom rental."

From most to least, here's how much apartment space $1,500 monthly rent will get you in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, according to Rentcafe.

  • Mesquite: 999 square feet.

  • Garland: 937 square feet.

  • Arlington: 928 square feet.

  • Fort Worth: 909 square feet.

  • Denton: 868 square feet.

  • Irving: 848 square feet.

  • McKinney: 809 square feet.

  • Dallas: 805 square feet.

  • Plano: 766 square feet.

  • Frisco: 740 square feet.
