APD: 3 arrested in Moore County after pursuit, Amarillo home invasion robbery

Three suspects were arrested by the Moore County Sheriff's Office after a law enforcement pursuit and reported home invasion aggravated robbery early Sunday.

According to a news release from the Amarillo Police Department, APD officers were sent to the 3100 block of Redwood in response to a home invasion robbery at 1:23 a.m. Sunday. Police said when officers arrived, they found several family members who had been restrained and assaulted by three suspects, who subsequently stole personal items from the residence.

An additional family member arrived to the residence, prompting the suspects to flee the scene, according to police, and another family member pursued the suspects north of town. APD said the suspects shot at the victim following them.

Amarillo officers contacted Moore County deputies, who worked with Hartley County deputies to apprehend the suspects as they entered their respective jurisdictions, APD said.

"Quick thinking deputies strategically deployed stop sticks ahead of the fleeing suspects, causing their vehicle's tires to deflate. This tire-deflation maneuver eventually led to the apprehension and subsequent custody of the three suspects by Moore County deputies," a news release states.

The robbery suspects were arrested by Moore County deputies.

According to the Moore County Sheriff's Office (MSCO) in a Facebook post, the agency was contacted at about 1:30 a.m. by APD, who said the suspects' vehicle, described as black colored, was heading out of Amarillo and toward Moore County at a speed of more than 100 mph, with a silver Chevrolet pickup truck following them at a high rate of speed. Moore County deputies began canvassing the southern area of the county to locate the suspect vehicle and saw a black SUV traveling at about 85 mph as it exited south US 287 onto Hwy. 354. The deputy then saw the pickup taking the same route, traveling at about 95 mph.

MCSO said the deputy contacted dispatch and activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. While in pursuit, the deputy saw his in-car speed radar indicate the suspect vehicle was then travelling up to 115 mph. MCSO said the suspect vehicle continued westbound and did not stop, instead increasing its speed. Additional MCSO deputies were advised of the situation.

MCSO said dispatch also contacted deputies of the Hartley County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) to advise them of the vehicle pursuit possibly entering Hartley County. The Moore County deputy continued to pursue the suspect vehicle into Hartley County into Channing and onto FM 385, all at speeds of more than 100 mph. As the suspect vehicle continued down FM 385, a Hartley County deputy arrived in the area and joined in the pursuit. The suspect vehicle continued travelling north until reaching west US 87 and began heading east toward the city of Dumas. MCSO said that while on US 87, the suspect vehicle reached speeds up to 130 mph.

"As the vehicle approached the West Subdivision off of US 87 W, Patrol Division Officers of the Dumas Police Department (DPD) were staged and ready to deploy stop sticks. Stop sticks were successfully deployed by DPD Patrol, disabling both of the suspect vehicle’s front tires," MCSO said in the post. "The suspect vehicle continued traveling into the City of Dumas and turned southbound onto Dumas Avenue. At this time, additional MCSO Patrol Deputies caught up to the pursuit. Despite having both front tires damaged, the suspect vehicle continued to evade southbound on Dumas Avenue. MCSO Deputies then became concerned that a potentially armed suspect or suspects could manage to enter a residential area or other area where Moore County Citizens may be placed in danger by the suspect(s).

"The initial pursuing MCSO Deputy then moved his assigned patrol vehicle to the passenger side of the suspect vehicle, and in the 1300 block of S. Dumas Avenue, the MCSO Deputy used his vehicle to strike the rear passenger side of the suspect vehicle, causing it to spin out and come to a complete stop."

MCSO said "high-risk stop protocols were initiated" and multiple suspects in the vehicle were then detained.

Upon searching the stopped vehicle, MCSO said deputies found a small jar "containing a white in color crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine." It is to be sent to a nearby crime laboratory for testing. Deputies also located other items related to other criminal investigations that are ongoing.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Stacy Paredes, was arrested and faces multiple charges including evading arrest and/or detention with a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance: penalty group 1 1-B more than 1 gram / less than 4 grams.

Two passengers, identified as Steven Ramirez and Jose Ortega, were arrested and face a charge for possession of a controlled substance: penalty group 1 1-B more than 1 gram / less than 4 grams.

They were booked into the Moore County Jail.

"The MCSO would like to thank the Hartley County Sheriff’s Office and the Dumas Police Department for their assistance in capturing these suspects," the post concluded. "Their actions helped ensure that the pursuit was resolved without any Citizens, law enforcement officers, or suspects being harmed, which is always the desired outcome."

APD violent crimes detectives have been assigned to investigate the home invasion robbery.

The investigation is ongoing, and APD said further updates will be provided as arrests are made in connection with the Amarillo robbery incident.
