APD: Driver dies after head-on crash in turning lane on Hillside Road early Wednesday

The Amarillo Police Department's Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a crash involving two pickup trucks early Wednesday, which left two people injured and one dead.

At about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, Amarillo officers were dispatched to the site of a reported crash in the 6400 block of Hillside Road.

According to police, a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Larry Granado, 56, had been traveling westbound in the 6400 block of Hillside Road. At the same time, a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on Hillside Road.

The vehicles crashed head-on in the turning lane.

The driver of the 2002 Chevrolet, a 30-year-old man, and a 24-year-old female passenger were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Granado was taken to a local hospital, where he died from injuries received in the crash.

No further information was available about the crash, which remains under investigation.
