Apopka 2023 DE Kaven Call remains humble after 4-star rating

A few weeks ago Kaven Call was upgraded by 247Sports.com’s recruiting analysts from a three-star college football prospect to a four-star. While that’s exciting for the Apopka sophomore defensive end, he said he is still determined not to let it go to his head.

“I’m blessed to be [a four-star], but there’s more work to come and [I’ve] just got to keep working or it means nothing,” Call said last weekend at Excel Speed and Lo Wood’s Battle in the Pit at Central Florida Christian Academy. “I think I deserve it but, again, I just gotta keep working harder and more [attention] will come.

“My mom always tells me hard work pays off, so I stick to that.”

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Call, whom 247Sports.com ranks as the No. 9 strong-side defensive end in the country and No. 66 player overall for the class of 2023, was one of the top freshmen in the state last season. He was a key reason Apopka made it to the Class 8A title game and allowed just 10.2 points per game last season. Call averaged 3.2 tackles per game and had five sacks.
