Here's How You Can Help Victims of the California Wildfires

Whether you're in the region or living elsewhere in the country, there are numerous ways you can help those who have been impacted.

Once again the state of California is being ravaged by a series of wildfires, which have displaced hundreds of thousands of residents and killed 31 people to date, according to CNN. The Camp Fire in the northern part of the state is the most destructive in California history, taking down at least 6,700 buildings (mostly homes, CBS reports), while the Woolsey and Hill Fires in the south have caused more than 250,000 people to flee from areas like Calabasas and Malibu. And the situation isn't forecasted to improve: On Monday CBS reported that "near-hurricane force gusts may be in the cards" for areas already ravaged by the flames.

If you're looking for ways to help—whether you're in California and can give your time, or you live elsewhere and can make a financial donation—below is a list of organizations that are working to aid those affected by the blazes.

American Red Cross: The Red Cross is providing shelter and emotional support to evacuees. They also have an online tool that people can use to register themselves as safe so loved ones can find them. You can head to the website or call 1-800-RED CROSS to make a donation—or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund: For the past 15 years, this organization has raised over $5 million to assist people displaced by fires and support them with mental health services.

California Fire Foundation: This organization works locally to give immediate financial assistance to people who have lost everything in the fires. Through the foundation's SAVE program, firefighters distribute prepaid gift cards to victims so they can purchase necessities.

Caring Choices: If you're in California, this Chico-based nonprofit is recruiting volunteers for a variety of duties, such as caring for displaced animals or offering medical care.

Entertainment Industry Foundation: This Hollywood-organized nonprofit has a fund that helps firefighters and other emergency workers by providing much needed equipment and meals.

Humane Society of Ventura County: The organization is accepting donations to its general fund to help take care of animals being housed in its shelters because of the fires.

Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation: The LAFD tweeted that it is in need of donations to help provide first responders with necessary hydration backpacks.
