Boaters rush to sinking vessel off Brielle, rescue four passengers

Joe Cabasso of Long Branch was fishing for fluke a few miles off Brielle on Sunday morning when he heard screaming. A nearby boat was taking on water, and the four passengers were treading water in the ocean and in need of help. READ MORE

Three killed in Garden State Parkway crash from Monmouth County NJ

A crash on the Garden State Parkway Sunday night claimed the lives of three people from Monmouth County, the New Jersey State Police said. According to a preliminary investigation, a Kia and a Toyota were traveling south on the Parkway shortly before 10 p.m. when the Kia collided with the rear of the Toyota, Detective Jeffrey Lebron said. Point Pleasant NJ police sergeant charged with shoplifting, again

The commander of the Point Pleasant Police Department's detective bureau, who drew a shoplifting charge in June, has been charged for a second and third time in two additional incidents. Detective Sgt. Joshua H. Gunnell, 41, was arrested and suspended in June after he was caught shoplifting more than $200 worth of items from Walmart on Route 88, according to police documents. Doormat strikes as fishermen haul in big fluke on the reefs, rock piles

🔒 Fishermen crisscrossed the underwater sand hills, reefs, rock piles and wrecks this weekend and returned to the dock with not only fish but some harrowing tales. It could have been a tragic weekend on the Sea Girt Reef when a small recreational sport boat began taking on water and sinking. Fortunately, the anglers mayday cries were heard by a nearby boat, Gemini, which picked up the four passengers as they swam in the water. READ MORE

Rutgers basketball foreign tour to Senegal, Portugal complete schedule

🔒 As Rutgers basketball players and staff underwent a series of vaccinations over the past few weeks in preparation for the program’s first-ever trip to Africa, head coach Steve Pikiell viewed the shots as part of the bonding experience. “It’s hard to go to Africa, so nobody goes,” Pikiell said by phone last week. “That’s part of why I wanted to go there.” READ MORE

OneMain in Eatontown hopes Netflix at Fort Monmouth will lure tenants

🔒 With the completion of a $2 million renovation, the owner of a landmark Route 35 office building in the center of town is hoping the coming of Netflix to Fort Monmouth will bring new tenants here too. "It's very close to Fort Monmouth, and we're looking forward to the Netflix boom," said Fishel Schlesinger, chief executive officer of Golden Gate Management, the owner of OneMain, a five-story, 50,000-square-foot building at the corner of Main and Broad streets. 🔒 Dave Miller drove to his first Jersey Shore BlueClaws game of the season last week, and, as he had done countless times over his years as a baseball fan, he paid for parking with cash. This time, though, the attendant returned his $5 bill, not because parking was free or the car in front of him decided to pay it forward, but because the stadium only accepted debit and credit cards. CityMD opening urgent care centers in Eatontown, Brick, Middletown NJ

🔒 CityMD Urgent Care, the region's largest network of urgent care centers, is preparing to open in Eatontown, its third new health care center at the Jersey Shore so far this year. The location, on the northbound side of Route 35 across from Monmouth Mall, is currently under construction and is expected to open in September, said Dmitry Volfson, service line chief for CityMD Urgent Care. Bruce Springsteen paid a special tribute to the late Robbie Robertson at the E Street Band's North American stadium and arena tour kickoff Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Wrigley Field in Chicago. “To my good friend Robbie Robertson,” said Springsteen before performing “I'll See You in My Dreams” to close the show, according to social media videos. Angelina Pivarnick of Jersey Shore called police on Vinny 2.0

Angelina Pivarnick and fiancé Vinny Tortorella had a flare up at their Freehold Township home. Pivarnick, cast member of MTV's “Jersey Shore Family Vacation,” called police after an alleged altercation at the home, according to the New York Post. Pivarnick declined to press charges against Tortorella after the cops arrived. The date of the incident was not reported. READ MORE
