Appeals Court judge, state Supreme Court candidate McCool to address local GOP group

Chris McCool, justice of the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals who has announced his candidacy for the state Supreme Court, will be in Rainbow City on Saturday to speak at the monthly Etowah County Republican Breakfast.

The event takes place at 8 a.m. at Western Sizzlin’; the meal is Dutch treat.

McCool is a native of Gordo. After practicing law there for two years, he spent nearly 24 years as a prosecutor, serving as district attorney of Fayette, Lamar and Pickens counties from 2001 to 2018, when he was elected to a six-year term on the Court of Criminal Appeals.

He’ll be seeking an open seat on the state Supreme Court in 2024.

McCool also is pastor of Zion Primitive Baptist Church.
